Step into a world of creativity and inspiration. projectART has matched 12 pairs of artists and students, who have worked together for a semester, delving deeper into all aspects of creating art, from concept to exhibition. In its fifth year, projectMENTOR has matured into a proper apprenticeship, where middle and high school students are meticulously selected from a myriad of applications and carefully matched with artists who excel in their craft.
Students then work with their mentors for many months, designing a project and learning new techniques and the ins and outs of creating their art. This process does not end at the finished product, however; it crosses over into the business aspect of the art world. Students are coached in assigning value to their work and signing contracts that allow their work to be displayed in an end-of-semester, professional gallery show at ARTSPACE, where their art has the potential to be sold. The mentee gains valuable skills in technique and creativity as well as skills to launch a career in art.
Artist and student pairs include Martha Gibson and Issabella, Sam Elkins and Kamren, Brian Delano, Lillian, and Ryker, Katie Gardener and Waylan, Laura Greene and Liberty, Eric Morales and Conner, Pearly Rihn and Lily, Jim Miller and Drew, Andy Rihn and Sawyer, Melanie Levin and Katie, Autumn Keese and Oliver, Jan Fitzhugh and Cassidy.
